چکیده

Sea-ice classification based on scattering mechanisms is investigated using the Unsupervised Wishart Classification with Entropy, Alpha and Anisotropy decomposition parameters. L and C Band JPL AIRSAR fully polarimetric data from the Beaufort Sea during winter/freeze conditions are used for testing the algorithm. Initial results show that, within specified ranges of incidence angles, there is good discrimination between the major ice classes, with L-Band giving better first year ice discrimination than C band.

First Assessment of Polarimetric Images from Alos - Palsar: Check of Polarimetric Calibration and Assessment of Land - Cover Classification Potential

This study is a first assessment of fully polarimetric SAR data from the Advanced Land Observation Satellite (ALOS) – Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR) over the test-site of Oberpfaffenhofen in Germany. The polarimetric calibration is checked by using corner reflectors on the Oberpfaffenhofen test-site. Further, the fully polarimetric images are classified by using the ...

Potential of RADARSAT-2 for Sea Ice Classification

Polarimetric data acquired by the CCRS CV-580 airborne SAR is used to assess the capability of RADARSAT-2 for operational sea ice classification. The information content of the polarimetric data is illustrated by showing how specific scattering mechanisms are portrayed by the entropy, anisotropy and α-angle features. Ice type classes are derived from the full pol data set using a complex Wishar...

A Polarimetric SAR Classification and comparison test against aerial photography images in Glen Affric radar project

In this paper our recent investigation and experimental results of the polarimetric SAR classification of the data for the Glen Affric radar project is presented. The polarimetric classification is one of the most important applications of the radar polarimetry in remote sensing. The unsupervised and supervised polarimetric classification of the Glen Affric data in respect to the classified Ari...

Sea Ice Classification Using Multi-Frequency Polarimetric SAR Data

This paper discusses the capability of the complex Wishart classifier for sea ice and classification using multifrequency, fully polarimetric SAR data. C-, L-, and P-band data acquired by the JPL AIRSAR in the Beaufort sea was used. Classification using the unsupervised Wishart classifier is a twostage process. An initial classification is required to seed the algorithm and can be derived using...

Classification of Ice Types from Convair-580 Data of Northumberland Strait, PEI

RESUME The discrimination between open water and sea ice, and/or between sub -classes of sea ice are challenges for SAR remote sensing. Compared to single channel SAR data, fully polarimetric data contain more physical information about the scattering processes, which can be used to increase the discrimination accuracy. Unsupervised polarimetric classification or segmentation approaches allow t...
